Savills Guernsey steps up to Mount Everest challenge

Staff at Savills Guernsey scaled new heights as part of an annual charity fundraiser.

Three teams from the office completed the Val De Terres Everest Challenge in aid of Smile for Georgie.

Over a 30 day period the aim was to walk 115 laps around the 1.6km circuit of Le Val des Terres, George Road and Havelet. With a climb of 77m per lap, on completing the challenge participants scaled 8,848m – the equivalent of Mount Everest.

Two teams of eight from Savills Guernsey walked a total of 230 laps while commercial property director Terry Gardiner completed the challenge as an individual.

The Val De Terres Everest Challenge was first held in 2019. Hundreds of islanders take part in the event every year and have raised more than £87,000 for local charities since it began.

The money raised will be given to Smile for Georgie – a charity founded in memory of Georgie Le Prevost, which aims to provide relief, in cases of need, hardship or distress and bring smiles to people in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. A donation will also be made to Diabetes Guernsey.

The team at Savills Guernsey raised a total of £1,635 and Terry said it was a great way to keep active while supporting good causes.

“It’s a very popular event and one that we were only too happy to support,” he said. “It’s been a fantastic way to come together as an office, keep fit mentally and physically and raise money for some very worthwhile charities.”
